A 25-year-old man was shot at by one of his friends after he allegedly abused another friend in the group, said the police on Thursday. The men were consuming alcohol at a roadside eatery on Pataudi-Rewari Road, when an argument among them turned violent. One of the men in the group shot the victim on his right leg.

The incident took place on Wednesday at around 7.15 pm at a roadside eatery on Pataudi-Rewari Road.

The victim, a native of Pataudi, called the police, who took him to Pataudi Hospital. He was later referred to the Civil hospital, Gurugram, for treatment.

Mohammad Zahid, the investigating officer, said the victim, who works as a labourer in Manesar, was consuming alcohol with friends on Wednesday.

“A fight ensued among the three friends, when the victim allegedly abused another man in the group in a drunken haze. The third friend took offence at the use of a cuss word by the victim and shot him below his right knee,” said Zahid. The police said the victim’s statement could not be recorded on Wednesday, as he was unconscious after the surgery.

“He is stable now, but he refused to record his statement on Thursday, saying that he wanted to consider all options available to him before filing a complaint,” said Zahid.

Zahid, said, “Since no case had been registered, we are yet to start a probe in the case.”
