Bengaluru to face scheduled power cuts in March: Here's the list of areas

Data on the BESCOM website showed many localities in the K'taka state capital are set to face scheduled interruptions in power for most of the month.

BESCOM, the electricity supply board of Bengaluru, has put up a list of areas that will be affected by frequent power cuts in March as it looks to shift overhead cables and wires underground before rain arrives.

For the week till Mar 20, power will be cut till as late as 10 p.m. in areas like Malleswaram, Vidhana Soudha, Jayanagar, Koramangala, Indiranagar, Kanakpura, Kengeri, Whitefield division and Rajajinagar etc. for maintenance works.

BESCOM data showed renovation and modernization works from the Whitefield division will see power cuts for up to 60 days, starting at 9 a.m. in the morning to run till 6 p.m., till May 3.

BESCOM, which receives major slack due to recurrent power cuts, taps weekends more heavily to get works done as there is less load on the grid with offices being shut.

However, it is no different when power cuts are extended till 7 to 8 p.m. on weekdays, disrupting work for many on a regular basis as much of the city shifts between working from office and working from home.

Even with UPS and generators, citizens report that power cuts run so long that their backups also drain out by evening time. “We won't be able to use geysers or heavy appliances for the whole day, which is a lot of inconvenience to go through on an everyday basis,” Meghana Manjunath, a resident of Rajarajeshwari nagar said.
