Former cricketer Javagal Srinath cast his vote at a polling station in Mysuru as voting is underway for the Karnataka assembly election. Srinath, who is now an ICC match referee, encouraged people to participate in the electoral process. “...I request people to come, vote & choose a good leader for good democracy. I also voted...We must participate in democracy...” he said.

Many politicians and top personalities including chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, Infosys founder Narayana Murthy and wife Sudha Murthy, Congress's Siddaramaiah, actor Ramesh Aravind, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy have also cast their vote.

The high-voltage campaign for the assembly election came to an end on Monday as all three major political parties in the state -- BJP, Congress and JD(S) - left no stone unturned to woo the voters. The campaigning saw roadshows by the country's top leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and multiple rallies by each party's star campaigners.

Voting is currently underway for 224 assembly constituencies in Karnataka with 2,615 candidates in the fray. According to the Election Commission of India, the voting will take place from 7 am to 6 pm. The majority mark to form the government is 113 seats.

Polling is scheduled across 58,545 polling stations including auxiliary polling stations. A total of 42,48,028 new voters have been registered to vote for the assembly elections.
