The victim, Asad Galib Sayyed, a Nashik resident, worked at a private firm and had come to Kalyan on official work. He and a colleague were on the bike when the incident occurred near Durgadi bridge in Kalyan.
When Sayyed’s colleague overtook the car, the driver and his friends sped up and blocked the bike’s path. According to the police, the men then got out of the car and started abusing Sayyed. He asked them to talk politely, which angered them further. The trio then manhandled Sayyed and his colleague. While his colleague fell to the ground, Sayyed fell seven feet off the road into the creek and hit his head against a stone. As soon as the men noticed that Sayyed was bleeding, the trio fled.
Sayyed’s colleague then rushed him to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
The police said they are going through CCTV footage of shops in the area and talking to locals to identify the accused. “We have registered a case and suspect that the accused are Kalyan residents,” said a police officer.
