4 held for smuggling drugs into Punjab from Odisha
Four people, including two senior citizens, were arrested with 2.04 quintal marijuana, 3kg poppy husk, and 500g opium, which they were smuggling into Punjab from Odisha; they used one of their trucks as a lookout to avoid being caught smuggling drugs
Four people, including two senior citizens, were arrested with 2.04 quintal marijuana, 3kg poppy husk, and 500g opium, which they were smuggling into the state in two trucks on Friday.

The accused are Avninder Singh, 37 and Pushpinder Singh, 64, of Samrala; and Kuldeep Singh, 40, and Gurjeet Singh, 61, of Fatehgarh Sahib. While Avninder Singh and Pushpinder Singh are truck drivers, Kuldeep Singh and Gurjeet Singh own of the trucks, which have been impounded.
Commissioner of police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the accused would use two trucks to smuggle the drugs. One of the trucks would check whether police check posts had been setup, and signal the second truck accordingly.
Acting on a tip off, the accused were arrested on the National Highway near Sahnewal. The trucks were coming from Mandi Gobindgarh side.

They delivered medicines and tyres to Bhubaneswar, Odisha. From where they loaded raw iron material and drugs in their truck. They took the medicines to Mandi Gobindgarh and came to Ludhiana to deliver the contraband.
A case was registered under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been lodged against the accused.
