Lawyer alleges firing, vandalising of office, police refute claim
Ludhiana A city-based lawyer claimed that armed assailants had opened fire and vandalised his office in Dharmpura area on Wednesday. The lawyer, Dapinderjit Singh Gill of Dharampura, said that it was the second such incident in the past three months where the accused had threatened him with a firearm. However, cops say that the preliminary probe and statements recorded from people residing in the vicinity suggests no fire arms were discharged.
Bus mows down 8-year-old near Jalandhar Bypass
A day after an eight-year-old old boy was crushed to death near Jalandhar Bypass, the police have registered a case against the bus driver and initiated a probe. The incident took place when he was travelling with his mother, Manjinder Kaur, on a scooter towards Jalandhar. Kaur said she was heading towards Jalandhar to her parents’ house when the bus rammed into her scooter. She lost control over the scooter causing her son to fall off, and almost immediately the bus crushed him to death. “The bus driver has been booked under Section 304 A (death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. The bus belongs to PRTC,” the investigating officer said.
SAD leader Goodwill’s son shoots dog dead, booked
The son of controversial former Youth Akali Dal (YAD) leader Maninderpal Singh Johar alias Sunny Goodwill has been booked for opening fire and killing a dog at Model Gram Extension. The accused, Karan Johar, was visiting Model Gram Extension to meet his relative, when a dog started barking at him, following which the accused pulled out a weapon and opened fire at the dog, killing it on the spot.
Shell found, contained no explosive: Cops
Panic gripped Fortune City area in Jamalpur after an explosive shell (bombshell) was spotted by the residents. On Wednesday afternoon, some residents of the colony found a suspicious projectile material dumped in the mud. On being informed, Jamalpur police reached the spot along with anti-sabotage team and bomb disposable squad.
