Over the last 10 days, an 80-year-old man, a teenager, and a saleswoman have been reported missing in the city.
After her 80-year-old father, Harbhajan Singh, left home on February 26 without informing anyone, Ravinder Kaur of Mohar Singh Nagar lodged a missing person’s complaint after failing to find him. As the family suspects foul play, a case was registered under Section 346 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code, said assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Resham Singh.
On March 1, 20-year-old Simran Kaur, who works at a cosmetic store as a salesperson did not return home. Her father, Niranjan Singh of Rishi Nagar, has alleged that she was being confined against her will and a case was registered against an unidentified person under Section 346 at the Tibba Police Station.
In the third case, a 14-year-old girl, a resident of Basant City of Daad village, who worked as a domestic help in Rajguru Nagar went missing.
Her mother said that her daughter had left her employers’ house at around 11am, but did not return home. She suspects that her daughter had been abducted on pretext of marriage.
An FIR has been registered under Sections 363 (punishment for kidnapping) and 366A (procuration of minor girl) of the Indian Penal Code against unidentified accused.
