And with the 35th edition of the annual Chrysanthemum show going on in the city, “a garden brimming with these colourful flowers” is indeed every tricity gardeners’ delight.

With over 270 varieties on display, the show which is on at Terraced Garden, Chandigarh has the theme of ‘zero-waste festival’.

One of the winners of the show, Sanjay Thareja, whose team won the ‘Prince’ and ‘Queen’ of the show titles, says, “Following our passion, we have been taking part in the show for the last 15 years and have won in multiple categories, including the King, Queen, and Prince of the show titles.”

“We got some varieties from select nurseries in Kolkata and have been closely monitoring the growth of the plant. One needs to be very careful as to when they plant the saplings and how much sunlight or shade is required for the ideal blooming of the flowers,” he says.

Sharing some tips, plant aficionado Rajni Sachdeva says, “A winter garden is incomplete without these perennials. It has to be planted in September for winter flowering. One must plant Chrysanthemum in a location that receives 5-6 hours of sunlight daily.”

“Since the plant is susceptible to mildew, proper water drainage, air circulation, and allowing the morning sun to dry the dew on the leaves and stems is crucial,” she adds.
