A car caught fire on Thursday night in Sector 40, Chandigarh, though no casualty was reported. The driver escaped unhurt while the vehicle was gutted. The cause of fire is not yet known but short circuit is suspected. The fire was doused by fire tender.

Press club condemns misbehaviour with journalist

The Chandigarh Press Club condemned the recent incident of misbehaviour by Chandigarh police DSP (east) Uday Pal with Aman Loona, a journalist, on Monday in the Industrial Area police station, while he was performing his official duty. A delegation of the Chandigarh Press Club along with other journalists met DGP Praveer Ranjan. The DGP has assured a fair investigation into the complaint submitted by Loona.
Man arrested for heroin possession

The Operation Cell of Chandigarh Police on Monday arrested Sanjeev Kumar, alias Soni (31), a resident of Ludhiana, after recovering 151 grams of heroin from his possession near the Butterfly Park, Sector 26. A case under the NDPS Act was registered at the Sector 26 police station.
Four men arrested for gambling

The police on Wednesday arrested Shehzad, Mohamed Irshad, Imran and Mohamed Faraz, all residents of BDC, Sector 26, for gambling near a wine shop at the Grain Market, Sector 26. The police recovered a total of ₹5500 in cash from their possession. A case under the Gambling Act was registered at the Sector 26 police station. The arrested were later released on bail.
Para-sports meet held at PU
Chandigarh: The Panjab University on Thursday hosted a parasports meet to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The event was organised by Equal Opportunity Cell for Persons with Disabilities and the varsity’s sports department, in collaboration with Saksham Chandigarh, Department of Community Education and Disability Studies, and the PGI’s Differently-abled Employees Union. It was inaugurated by DUI, VR Sinha.
CCPCR celebrates International Day of Persons with Disability

The Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) organised a special celebration event at the Institute for the Blind, Sector 26, to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disability. Students delivered performances centred around the larger theme of promoting leadership and participation of people with disabilities to lead to an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID world. A total of 180 students participated in the programme.
Man dies after being hit by speeding car in Mohali
Mohali
A 50-year-old man died after being hit by a speeding car, bearing a Delhi registration number, near Lakhnaur village on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Jagatpal, a resident of Kumbra, Mohali. The victim, who was riding his motorcycle home from work, suffered multiple injuries after being hit by the speeding car late in the evening. The car driver fled from the scene soon after the mishap.The victim’s son rushed him to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, where he was declared brought death. Police have registered a case at the Phase-1 station against the unidentified driver. The body of the deceased was handed over to his family after the post-mortem.
