The MRI Scan Centre was operational since 2011 on public-private partnership (PPP) mode, but it was lying closed since the agency’s contract got over in 2022. Ever since, patients at the hospital have been forced to visit private facilities or PGIMER to get the tests done.

Since PGIMER is the only other government facility offering MRI tests in Chandigarh, the waiting time there was running into six months.

UT health secretary Yashpal Garg said, “The UT health department floated a fresh tender to resume services at the MRI centre under PPP mode. After due process, the project was allotted to Krsnaa Diagnostic Ltd and the facility was restarted on Tuesday.”

Garg said that the centre will operate round the clock and testing will be available not only for patients of GMSH, but also those referred from other government hospitals and private health facilities.
