Chandigarh: Three firms submit bids to take over sweeping of southern sectors

The Chandigarh municipal corporation has received bids from three firms to take up the contract for GIS based mechanised and manual sweeping of southern sector roads.

In addition to Lions Service Ltd, which is currently carrying out the work, two other firms, BVG International and Antony Waste Ltd, have submitted their bids. It will take at least five days to technically assess the bids. Thereafter, financial bids will be opened. The entire process is likely to be completed in another 10 days.

MC floated the tenders in January inviting firms to take over the work. The interested parties were asked to download the request for proposal (RFP) document from e-tendering portal and submit bids by February 21, which was extended till March 8.

Lion Service Limited’s contract expires on March 31. MC pays ₹4.70 crore to the firm every month.

The issue of sweeping of southern sectors have generated much controversy and heat for the BJP ruled MC during its previous term.

The delay in floating of contract for had led to the MC general house requesting the Punjab Governor and UT administrator to hold an inquiry into the matter. This was one of the reasons for a former medical officer of health (MOH), a Punjab cadre officer, to be repatriated back to Punjab.
