Chandigarh traffic police rally promotes use of helmets by women
The Road Safety Awareness Week 2022, being observed by Chandigarh traffic police, concluded with a two-wheeler rally that saw the participation of around 200 women riders promoting use of helmets
Traffic police’s Road Safety Awareness Week 2022, aimed at highlighting the importance of helmets, concluded with a two-wheeler rally on Saturday.
Organised in association with HDFC Bank, Leo Club, Onkar Trust and True Brew Coffee, the rally was flagged off at the Children Traffic Park in Sector 23 by senior superintendent of police (SSP, traffic) Manisha Choudhary.
Around 200 women two-wheeler riders participated in the rally and displayed slogans on road safety, especially the use of helmets. During the event, reflective tapes were also pasted on helmets of participants. A stringent enforcement campaign is expected to be carried out next against those not wearing helmets.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP, traffic administration) Palak Goel, DSP (traffic central) Gurjeet Kaur and DSP (traffic road safety) Jaswinder Singh were also present for these events.
The campaign, which was inaugurated by distribution of helmets among women and children on February 28 saw awareness sessions being carried out at different schools and colleges.
Superintendent of police (SP, traffic) Ketan Bansal inaugurated the event. Traffic police personnel were present at various intersections of the city, distributing pamphlets to create awareness about wearing helmets. They also visited the offices of companies such as Infosys, schools and colleges to reach out to a wider audience.
Special awareness workshops were organised in various colonies of the city and in nearby villages including Ram Darbar, Bapu Dham, Dhanas and Maloya. Quizzes were held at these locations, with helmets being handed out as awards.
