Chandigarh: Labourer electrocuted while working at PGIMER, contractor held
The victim, Pappu Thakur, and Vikas Kumar, 35, both residents of Burail village, were digging the ground for installation of pipes near the AC plant at PGIMER’s Advanced Cardiac Centre, when the mishap took place
A 40-year-old labourer was electrocuted to death while working at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) on Saturday night.
The victim, Pappu Thakur, and Vikas Kumar, 35, both residents of Burail village, were digging the ground for installation of pipes near the AC plant at PGIMER’s Advanced Cardiac Centre.
While working, Thakur’s iron tool came in contact with an underground electricity wire and electrocuted him. He was rushed to the PGIMER emergency, where he was declared brought dead.
Following the mishap, police arrested the contractor, Amrik Singh Gill of Sector 70, Mohali. He was later released on bail.
He is facing a case under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code, registered at the Sector-11 police station.
