Maximum temperature went down from 13° C on Tuesday to 11.9° C on Wednesday, 8.8 degrees below normal. This made Wednesday the third consecutive “severe cold” day, which as per IMD, is declared when the minimum temperature drops below 10° C and the maximum temperature is more than 6.5 degrees below normal. Monday and Tuesday also fell in the category.

Minimum temperature also dipped slightly from 6.6° C on Tuesday to 6.2° C on Wednesday, one degree above normal. In the next three days, maximum temperature will hover around 15° C, while minimum temperature will stay between 6°C and 8°C.

Giving out further details, IMD officials said fog formation will continue in view of the high humidity and low temperature. With snowfall in parts of the region on Wednesday, cold northerly winds are also expected to continue — further contributing to the temperature staying low.

Relief from fog expected from Saturday

A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is expected to affect the city weather from Saturday onwards.

While it is unclear whether it will lead to any rain, the same is expected to affect the formation of fog over the weekend by disrupting the winds blowing in the region.

21 flights delayed, six cancelled

As many as 21 flights, including eight arrivals, were delayed at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport due to fog. Six flights, meanwhile, were cancelled till 7 pm on Thursday.
