Farm unions gear up for January 26 rally in Jind
Azad Palwa, a farmer leader from Jind, said all preparations have been done, and the January 26 rally will be historic in terms of gathering
The farmer bodies of Northern states are all geared up for a mega rally on January 26 at Haryana’s Jind on the occasion of Republic Day to raise their pending issues such as legal guarantee on the minimum support price (MSP) for the crops, cancellation of FIRs registered during the farm agitation, relief to the farmers arrested during the farm stir and others.
The union government on December 1, 2021, had scrapped three contentious farm laws after facing a massive protest from farmers, majorly in Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and other states.
Azad Palwa, a farmer leader from Jind, said all preparations have been done, and the January 26 rally will be historic in terms of gathering.
“This rally is being organised after the union government failed to implement the promises made to the farmer leaders when three farm laws were scrapped in December 2021. There are pending cases against the cultivators, and the government did nothing on the minimum support price and the union minister Ajay Mishra was not sacked from the cabinet and many other issues,” he added.
Senior Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) leader Inderjit Singh said the farmers of Haryana are agitating for a hike in the prices of sugarcane but the BJP-JJP government is ignoring their demands.
“Nearly 50% of the sugarcane has been harvested, but sugar mills are yet to release the payment to farmers. The prices of fuels and pesticides have increased, and the government is silent on the MSP issue. In the rally, farmers from Haryana, Punjab, western Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi will participate. The khaps of the region will also join the rally, and the future course of action will be announced,” he added.
