Dr Vanita used to prepare cakes on order and was baking one when the accused, who had covered their faces with mufflers, entered the house on the pretext of buying a cake. Within seconds, they locked other family members, including her husband Dr Atul Arora, and the domestic help, Madhu, in a room and demanded keys of the lockers. When Dr Vanita resisted, they hit her on the head and she died on the spot, the police said.

Kurukshetra superintendent of police Surinder Singh Bhoria said they have got leads about the accused and they will be arrested soon.

The police are recording the statement of her husband, Dr Atul Arora, and the domestic help to register the FIR.

The Indian Medical Association demanded the arrest of the accused at the earliest and strict action against them.

The murder comes hours after miscreants chopped off the hands of a person at a roadside eatery near Pipli town on Monday.
