Haryana home minister Vij asks DGP to suspend 372 investigating officers for delay in probes
Haryana home minister Anil Vij said that his message is clear that the police department needs to expedite disposal of these cases in public interest
Taking a tough stance on “non performing” police officials, Haryana home minister Anil Vij on Monday ordered the director general of police (DGP), Shatrujeet Kapur, to place under suspension 372 investigating officers for not disposing of first information reports (FIRs) in the last one year.
The home minister said that he wrote to the DGP in this regard on Monday.
“I have been asking the police department for a year now about the FIR disposal rate and sought data a few months ago. I was told that 3,229 cases under investigation were pending for a year. I first took a rather lenient view and sought the explanation of the concerned investigating officers.
The police department told me that 372 investigating officers did not submit satisfactory responses,” Vij said while speaking to HT.
The home minister said that his message is clear that the police department needs to expedite disposal of these cases in public interest.
“The public is suffering. People come to me with complaints that they are not being heard, the police is irresponsive, cops show lackadaisical attitude in registering FIRs and then sit over the investigations,” Vij said.
The home minister said that he has asked the DGP to hand over the investigations of these 372 investigating officers to the concerned deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) who should dispose of these cases in a month.
“If the DSPs do not dispose of these FIRs in a month, action will also be initiated against them,” the home minister warned.
