Haryana: Man gets life term for raping nephew’s minor daughter

A fast-track court in Fatehabad on Tuesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for allegedly raping his nephew’s nine-year-old daughter multiple times in December 2024.

Additional sessions judge-cum special judge Amit Garg also imposed a fine of ₹2 lakh on Suraj Bhan, who was convicted under Sections 4(2) and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Section 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act.

Fatehabad district attorney Devender Mittal said the victim’s mother had registered an FIR against Suraj, her husband’s maternal uncle, for repeatedly raping the minor and issuing death threats to the girl.

“During the police probe, it came to light that the accused was serving a sentence for allegedly raping his stepdaughter. He was out on bail. We argued in court that the offence committed by the accused is grave and serious,” he added.

While pronouncing life term sentence, the judge said, “The trauma suffered by the victim is unbearable and will affect her life. Therefore, the convict receives the maximum punishment under the law.”
