The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) on Wednesday demolished three “unauthorised” colonies in Manakwal and Mehmoodpura villages.

The action was taken following the directions of GLADA chief administrator Sandeep Kumar. Officials said the developers had continued construction work despite being served notices, prompting the regulatory wing to carry out the demolition and sealing drive. The operation was conducted without any resistance.

GLADA has also recommended legal action against the developers involved in the illegal colonies. A GLADA spokesperson said a special drive had been launched to take punitive action against those misleading residents by offering cheaper plots in colonies that lacked statutory approval and failed to meet government norms.

Chief administrator Sandeep Kumar appealed to the public not to purchase plots or properties in unauthorised colonies, stating that GLADA would not provide basic facilities such as water supply, sewerage or electricity connections in such areas. He said the list of approved and regularised colonies, along with their sanctioned layout plans, was available on GLADA’s official website and should be verified by prospective buyers before making any purchase.
