Man booked for rape, abduction charges in Ludhiana

The accused intercepted the victim’s way and forcefully took her to the cremation ground where he raped her, the mother told police

The Jamalpur police have booked a man for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl after taking her to a cremation ground in a Ludhiana village.

Investigating officer ASI Lakhbir Singh, stated that the family has filed an FIR against the accused under Sections 137(2) , 87, 64 of the BNS and Section 4 of POSCO Act.

The accused has been identified as Neeraj Kumar. The FIR has been lodged against him following the statement of the victim’s mother. The complainant stated that her daughter left the house for school on April 1. When she returned in the afternoon she was frightened and crying. On being asked, the girl stated that the accused intercepted her way, when she was walking towards the school, and forcefully took her to the cremation ground where he raped her, the woman told police. Later, the accused dropped her near house and threatened to keep mum.

ASI Lakhbir Singh, who is investigating the case, stated that the family has filed a complaint on Monday and an FIR against the accused under Sections 137(2) (kidnapping), 87 (kidnapping, abducting, or inducing a woman to compel her marriage or for illicit intercourse), 64 (rape) of the BNS and Section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. “A hunt is on to arrest the accused,” he added.
