NSA invoked against social media handler of Amritpal, Punjab tells HC

The Punjab police on Friday told the high court that National Security Act (NSA) has been invoked against NRI Gurinder Pal alias Gur Aujla considered to be the social media handler of Amritpal Singh, the radical Sikh preacher, who is on the run.

The plea will now be taken up for further hearing on March 28. Meanwhile, the high court sought a response from the state government on a plea from one Emaan Singh Mann, seeking the release of Harjeet Singh Virk, stated to be a leader of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar). The plea claimed he had been illegally detained by the police. Three more petitions filed invoking habeas corpus provisions on Thursday, would also be taken up on March 28.

On that date, the high court will also take up a plea from Iman Singh Khara, legal adviser, Waris Punjab De, demanding Amritpal’s “release’, which was filed on March 19 and wherein the court has sought a fresh report from the government.

Meanwhile, a fresh petition was filed on Friday seeking the release of radical Sikh leader Amritpal and ensuring that he is not killed. The plea was from a lawyer, Jagdeep Singh Bains. The plea was taken up by the bench of justice Sanjay Vashisth but adjourned for Tuesday as no one appeared before the bench.
