The department of radiodiagnosis and imaging of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) now has the latest version of the 3 Tesla MRI machine

The department of radiodiagnosis and imaging of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) now has the latest version of the 3 Tesla MRI machine. This machine will assist in providing better diagnosis and treatment to patients, besides reducing waiting time, officials said.

“With a magnetic field strength twice as powerful as conventional 1.5 Tesla MRI, the new machine provides extremely clear and vivid images of the human body. The machine is ideal for brain, vascular, musculoskeletal, and small bone imaging and also functional imaging of the brain. The advance MRI imaging capability on the new machine will give early insights for cancer detection and characterisation, epilepsy and seizure disorders, sports injuries and rehabilitation etc,” said Dr MS Sandhu, head of the department.

Day after accident, scooterist succumbs to injuries

A day after a scooterist was injured in a hit-and-run accident near Yatri Niwas Chowk, he succumbed to his injuries at PGIMER on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Sanjay, a resident of Kansal. Based on the complaint of Sunil, Sanjay’s brother, police arrested Kulwinder Singh, 30, a native of SBS Nagar, on charges of rash driving and causing death by negligence. An FIR has been lodged at Sector 11 police station.

2 held for robbing Hallomajra man

Two days after a Hallomajra resident was robbed of his mobile phone, two Maloya men were arrested on Wednesday. The accused have been identified as Bholu, 20, and Sandeep Patel alias Sunny, 24. The victim, Tinku, said one of the accused hit him on the head with a stone, while another snatched his phone. He is under treatment at GMCH-32.

Ex armyman’s 100th b’day celebrated

A get together was organised by the TRI-CITY Rhinos (Assam Regiment Officers), led by Lt General Prem Puri on Wednesday, to celebrate the 100th birthday of Brigadier SS Chowdhary at the DSOI. Brig Chowdhary has had a chequered history in the Indian Army. He was commissioned in the 8th Punjab Regiment, Lahore in 1945. In 1946, he was posted with the British Troops in Iraq.

Union minister Jitendra Singh to visit NABI tomorrow

Union minister of earth sciences and science and technology, Jitendra Singh, will inaugurate the National Genome Editing and Training Centre (NGETC) and “International conference on food and nutritional security-2023” on Thursday at National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali. NGETC is the one-roof state-of-the-art facility that will serve as a national platform to cater to the regional needs to adapt different genome editing methods. The conference will be held from January 6 to 9.
