Chandigarh: Man who stalked Hallomajra woman for two months held

The woman alleged that the 24-year-old accused, identified as Honey, who she met through social media, again misbehaved with after reaching her house on Wednesday evening

Five days after Punjab State Human Rights Commission sought a report from the UT senior superintendent of police (SSP) over alleged police inaction against a woman’s stalked stalking complaint, police arrested the accused.

In her fresh complaint submitted with police, the woman alleged that the 24-year-old accused, identified as Honey, whom she met through social media, again misbehaved with her after reaching her house on Wednesday evening.

Earlier on May 2, the accused had allegedly barged into the house of the woman’s relatives, where she had shifted to, and abused her. Police said the accused, who is a drug addict, had at the time slit his wrist with a blade, following which he was taken into preventive police custody and was released.

On Wednesday, he had to be taken to the hospital after being taken into custody as he was bleeding through his stitches. He has been booked under Section 354 D (stalking) of the IPC at the Sector 31 police station.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer said a fresh FIR was registered, as the complainant had withdrawn her previous complaints.

Mentioning the report published in an English daily on Friday, the commission, comprising chairperson justice Sant Parkash and member Justice Nirmaljit Kaur, had directed the SSP to submit a report before the next date of hearing.
