Workers to stage protest on Aug 15

The Punjab Aids Control Employees Welfare Association, an organization representing health department workers, owing to their long-pending demands has announced a protest on August 15 at Patiala. The decision was taken unanimously in a meeting of office-bearers across Punjab on Sunday.

State president Jasmail Singh Deol, along with state general secretary Gurjant Singh, Sham Lal Saini and former president Mahendra Pal Singh Patiala, expressed their grievances against the government’s lack of action on important matters. Despite the organisations efforts to engage with authorities, the employees are left with no option but to resort to protests.

The demands put forth by the association include unconditional regularisation of all employees who meet the required criteria, 20% salary increase on par with the Delhi model and restoration of shifts and half-day casual leaves. The employees also seek fair treatment and consistency in wages, along with a resolution to various other departmental issues.

Gurjant Singh highlighting said despite several meetings with the government, nothing has happened. He clarified that the government’s response so far has been limited to photo opportunities with no real action taken to address the employees’ grievances.

If the demands are not met, the employees have vowed to halt work, putting the responsibility on the government and the department.
