Rain, hailstorm cause crops damage in Mahendergarh, Charkhi Dadri

“Strong winds accompanied by rain flattened the wheat crop. However, the hailstorm had damaged the mustard crop earlier. The crops which have ripened would face more moisture content and seed quality issues as the rainfall is still lashing the state and farmers have not threshed the crops,” Sihag, a farmer, said.

The rainfall has also spoiled the prospects of farmers, who are all set for the threshing of the mustard crop. Raghubir Sihag, a farmer from Miran village in Bhiwani, said the rainfall will have an adverse impact on all standing crops.

Rakesh Chaudhary, a farmer from Dewas village in Mahendergarh, said the hailstorm on Friday damaged the late-sown mustard and wheat crops.

Agriculture officials have been visiting fields to assess the exact crop loss. A day earlier, Haryana agriculture minister JP Dalal had visited affected areas in Dadri and assured the farmers that the government will compensate them for their losses.
