NLC Bharat to bring together legislators from across India, say Assembly speakers
About 3,000 members of the legislative assemblies and councils from across the nation are expected to assemble for the first time ever at one place in Mumbai for three days, beginning June 15
Keeping aside their political differences and joining hands for “larger interest of the nation”, vidhan sabha speakers of AAP-ruled Punjab, BJP governed Haryana and that of Congress in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday vowed to send maximum number of MLAs to attend the first-ever National Legislators’ Conference Bharat (NLC-Bharat) to be held in Mumbai in June to exchange ideas at one place.
About 3,000 members of the legislative assemblies and councils from across the nation are expected to assemble for the first time ever at one place in Mumbai for three days, beginning June 15.
The objective of the conference is cross-learning and it will also provide a platform to the participants to showcase cultural flavour of their state/region.
MIT School of Government, Atulya Bharat Nirman Foundation and Bhartiya Chhatra Sansad are jointly organising the conference, with support of various state and UT legislatures.
Haryana speaker Gian Chand Gupta said the objective of the conference was to share ideas for the unity of the country and to further strengthen the democracy.
Punjab speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan said the very idea of organising the conference was a “very positive and big step”. Sandhwan said legislators from across the country and from different ideological backgrounds assembling at one place to learn from others is nothing “short of a dream”.
Endorsing their views, Himachal Pradesh speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania said the conference would prove to be a much-needed step in the direction of nation building. He said the conference would also give an opportunity to the legislators to discuss contentious inter-state issues in an informal setting.
So far, 47 MLAs of Haryana, 40 from Punjab and 37 from Himachal Pradesh have registered to attend the meet.
Among the patrons and members of the governing council of NLC-Bharat include former Lok Sabha speakers Sumitra Mahajan, Meira Kumar, Manohar Joshi, and Shivraj Patil.
