Devotees throng Kedarnath shrine despite IMD's heavy rainfall warning | Video

A large number of devotees arrived in Kedarnath in Uttarakhand on Monday despite the weather department's yellow alert warning, forecasting heavy rainfall in the region. People flocked to the temple amid heavy rain lashing the hill state last night.

A day ago, the Meteorological Department of Uttarakhand sounded a yellow alert in the state, stating heavy rainfall is likely till Wednesday.
"There may be heavy rain in other areas of Kumaon division, including Bageshwar, Pithoragarh on Sunday, while strong winds at a speed of 30-40km per hour will also occur in the plains," ANI quoted Bikram Singh, director of the meteorological department, as saying.
Singh said the scope of this downpur was expected to increase on Monday, adding the rainfall was likely in Nainital, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh apart from some other districts.
"Along with this on June 28 (Tuesday), there is a yellow alert of heavy rain at some places in Dehradun, Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh," he said.
A tragedy had struck the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on February 7, 2021, when as many as 200 people died or went missing due to a glacier breach that occurred less than 100km from Raini village. Two hydroelectric projects were also destroyed in the tragedy.
