The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday released the date sheet for term 2 board examinations for classes 10 and 12 that are scheduled to begin from April 26. The term 1 board exams were conducted last year; its results are awaited.

School administrators said that while the date sheet provided enough of an interval between exams, some students had raised concerns about the extended period of the examination. (Representative image)

The Class 10 exams for minor subjects will commence with painting, while entrepreneurship will be the first subject for students in Class 12. For students in Class 12, the last exam will be psychology, which is scheduled for June 15, whereas the last exam for Class 10 is information technology, which will he held on May 24.

The date sheet is available on the board’s official website.

In a notification issued on Friday, CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said that the board had extended the interval between exams since it felt that the closure of schools due to pandemic-related curbs had led to a learning gap.

“When we could not increase the interval between certain subjects, we scheduled them at a later date so that students get sufficient time to prepare,” said Bhardwaj.

School administrators said that while the date sheet provided enough of an interval between exams, some students had raised concerns about the extended period of the examination.

Sudha Acharya, the chairperson of the National Progressive School Conference (NPSC) that has over 120 Delhi schools as members, and principal of ITL Public School, Dwarka, said that a section of Class 12 students would give their last exam on June 15--nearly two months after the exams first begin.

“The date sheet is fine but students who have their exams towards the end (in June) said that the exams would keep them occupied for two months. The major papers could have been scheduled in the beginning, in my view,” said Acharya.
