The Delhi government has initiated the process of preparing the budget estimates for 2027-28 and revised estimates for the current financial year, with the finance department directing all departments to submit their proposals by October 12.

In a circular issued, the finance department directed all other departments to furnish the estimates in the prescribed formats, in accordance with the General Financial Rules, 2017, and said budget proposals should be examined by the respective integrated financial advisor to ensure correctness of accounting classification.

The departments have been directed to make a realistic assessment of their fund requirements, with the finance department cautioning against wide variations between budget estimates and actual expenditure, noting that unrealistic projections have attracted adverse audit comments in the past.

The proposals will cover establishment and other committed expenditure, and government schemes and projects, including autonomous bodies, and centrally sponsored schemes. Departments have also been asked to include subordinate offices, grantee institutions and autonomous bodies under their administrative control while preparing consolidated budget proposals.

The pre-budget and revised estimate meetings are scheduled to begin in the last week of October, with the detailed dates to be communicated separately.
