Delhi lieutenant governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Saturday sought feedback from representatives of major markets on issues including encroachments, traffic congestion and parking and called for better coordination between traders and civic agencies to address recurring problems.

Sandhu interacted with representatives of market and traders’ associations from Sarojini Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Connaught Place, Mori Gate and Chandni Chowk, among other commercial hubs. During the meeting, traders highlighted concerns related to unauthorised encroachments, traffic snarls and inadequate parking arrangements in busy markets, according to a statement issued by the LG’s office.

The lieutenant governor also sought first-hand feedback on the effectiveness of the ‘Jan Sunwai’ initiative being conducted by Delhi Police at police stations across the city.

Sandhu said direct engagement with traders and residents was important to assess whether grievances related to safety, traffic, encroachments and other local issues were being addressed promptly.

He stressed the need for strict enforcement against violations, along with improved urban planning and civic infrastructure. He also underlined the importance of walkability, smooth traffic movement, cleanliness and disciplined parking in maintaining the accessibility and appeal of Delhi’s commercial hubs.

Sandhu said continued engagement between market associations and authorities was necessary to find practical solutions to issues affecting traders and shoppers.
