Delhi government approves a phased redevelopment of Maulana Azad Medical College to upgrade infrastructure, enhance patient care, and expand academic capacity.

The Delhi government has approved redevelopment of the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) campus in three phases, chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Saturday.

Officials said the redevelopment of the campus, which also houses Lok Nayak Hospital, GB Pant Hospital, Guru Nanak Eye Centre and the Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS), aims to upgrade ageing infrastructure, improve patient care facilities and expand academic capacity.

According to officials, the government has asked a consultancy to undertake a detailed assessment of the campus which is spread across 137 acres in central Delhi and prepare a long-term redevelopment plan.

Gupta said the first phase will involve the preparation of a detailed master plan, ensuring full compliance with local body regulations, norms of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and all applicable provisions. The master plan will be designed by taking the future requirements and expansion into account.

Gupta said the redevelopment is intended to transform the campus into an integrated healthcare and education hub with modern facilities for both patients and students.
