A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death late Monday night, allegedly by his neighbours, at Rama Road roundabout in Moti Nagar area in west Delhi. The victim, who sustained multiple injuries, died on the spot, police said, adding they arrested four persons, and apprehended a minor in connection with the case.

Ghanshyam Bansal, the deputy commissioner of police (west), said that Moti Nagar police station received a call around 11.30pm on Monday informing them about the stabbing incident near Gol Chakkar at Rama Road. “A police team reached the spot and found that locals had shifted the injured man, later identified as Balram Mishra (25), to ABG Hospital. By the time the team reached the hospital, doctors had declared Mishra dead on arrival. They recorded the statement of Mishra’s brother, who witnessed the incident. He said that a quarrel broke out at Rama Road Gol Chakkar between his brother and one Bunty, who, with his associates, assaulted his brother with knives and also fired at him,” he said.

He added that prima facie, the cause of the murder appeared to be enmity between Mishra and his neighbours. “Based on the statement of Mishra’s brother, police have so far apprehended five persons, including Bunty Kumar (19), Sarjeet Kumar (25), Rahul Kumar (19), Sanju Kumar (20) and one juvenile. All of them are residents of Rama Road. Two knives, used in the commission of crime, have also been recovered from their possession,” he said.

Bansal also said that Mishra was a private cab driver, but had been unemployed for the last few months. “We have registered a case under sections 302 (culpable homicide amounting to murder) and 34 (Criminal act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code at the Moti Nagar police station. Further investigation is going on,” he said.
