Upgrade tech to combat crime on regular basis: LG tells Delhi police

Delhi Police informed the LG that five more police services, including permission for organising rallies and events in the city, will be just a click away by the end of this month.

Five more police services, including permission for organising rallies and events in the city, will be just a click away by the end of this month, Delhi Police told lieutenant governor Anil Baijal in a meeting on Tuesday.

The other services include permission for using loudspeakers; for organising rallies, events or demonstrations; citizen feedback for different services; application to release property seized in cases under section 65 of Delhi Police Act; and application for release of jama talashi (money seized by police in raids) of small amounts.

On Tuesday afternoon, senior Delhi police officers also informed the LG about the 23 existing online citizen centric services, such as lodging e FIRs in theft cases, online reporting of cybercrimes, police clearance certificates for which there is no human interface.

“While appreciating the efforts made by Delhi Police in ensuring online delivery of public services, I emphasized the need to publicize these initiatives, to create wider public awareness... Advised Delhi Police to put in place an institutional mechanism to ensure constant up-gradation of technology and capacity building of human resources to avoid obsolescence,” the LG tweeted.

An officer, who was present at the meeting, said Baijal appreciated the recently started e-Chittha (e-roster) system adopted by all 178 police stations. The LG also reviewed the status of ‘Use of Technology in Policing’, along with Commissioner of Police (CP) Delhi, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) and other senior officers.

The e-Chittha system -- to ensure optimal use of manpower resources with increased efficiency and transparency in working -- was launched on February 28, along with two other digital initiatives: Anubhuti, a QR code based feedback system; and a user -friendly and more informative Delhi Police website.

Police commissioner Rakesh Asthana had then said that these three initiatives added new dimensions in the digitisation and modernization process of police force.

“The maximum utilization of technology with objective to improve service delivery system and ensuring safety and security of people is essential in present environment. The Delhi Police has set an example by introducing these digital initiatives and other forces will emulate us in coming days,” he said.
