Faridabad police have tracked down a man who allegedly left a letter threatening bomb blasts on the escalator at Faridabad’s Sarai Metro Station on Saturday to Moradabad in western Uttar Pradesh and apprehended him. The letter was found and handed over to Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) staff on Sunday by a commuter, police said.

The suspect has been identified as Rambeer Singh (21) of Moradabad who worked as a helper in a factory. He come to Faridabad and left the threat letter, police said.

The letter threatened to carry out blasts at Red Fort, Sarai Metro Station, Badarpur Border police outpost, a supermarket, and a liquor shop at Badarpur border. It also mentioned a threat against Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

According to Mukesh Malhotra, deputy commissioner of police (crime), police received a call from CISF staff members about the letter on Sunday. “Our teams were sent to the metro station and were handed over the investigation to verify the threats,” he said. Malhotra said teams scanned footage from all CCTV cameras installed at the metro station and security was beefed up to ensure safety of commuters.

“There were two pages written in Hindi and a map was drawn on a A4 sheet. It seemed someone wrote the letter to brief a team regarding the blasts. It was drafted professionally and a number was mentioned as emergency contact. We called the number and questioned the man after asking him to visit the police station. He was completely unaware of the letter or any such plan,” Sethi Malik, the inspector who arrested the suspect, said.

Police said the man worked as an operator at Sarai toll plaza in Faridabad. “We questioned him for hours but he was unable to provide us with any information that could lead us to the suspect. We spotted a man in the CCTV footage but he could not identify him. The man was seen wearing green slippers in the footage and his face was covered with a mask. Eventually, the toll plaza operator said that a former colleague’s husband had a tiff with him recently and had motive to implicate him,” Malik informed.

Police summoned Rambeer to the police station but he denied any involvement in the case. Malhotra said teams started tracking his movement and spotted him wearing the same green slippers when he stepped out on Monday.

“He broke down and said that he suspected his wife was in an illicit relationship with the toll plaza operator whose number he mentioned in the letter, thinking he will get arrested for the bomb threats. His wife tried to convince him that she was not having an affair but he was determined to get the man arrested. He also threatened him for life a few days ago,” he said. Rambeer also said that he got the idea after watching television serials. He will be produced in court on Tuesday and will be taken on police remand.
