Police arrested a man on Saturday for allegedly raping his minor stepdaughter at their rented house in Gurugram’s Palam Vihar, said the officials.

The 11-year-old girl was alone at home on Friday when the incident took place, police said, adding that it came to light when the victim’s mother returned home at around 8.30pm that day.

On the basis of a complaint file by the victim’s mother, a case was registered against the suspect under Indian Penal Code Section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), and Section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the Palam Vihar police station on Saturday, said the police.

According to the police, the suspect is around 29 years old, who got married to the woman some five years ago. Her first husband died around six years ago, they added.

After getting to know about the incident from her daughter, the woman confronted her husband, but he threatened her of dire consequences if she approached the police.

Inspector Jitender Kumar, station house officer (SHO) of Palam Vihar police station, said that the suspect was arrested from his house on Saturday morning. A medical examination was conducted on the victim, and the police will record her statement before a judicial magistrate soon.
