Police said that the incident took place at about 11.30pm on Wednesday, when the two brothers were returning home after having dinner in a restaurant at Bhim Nagar Chowk in Sector 6.

Police added that the suspects opened five to six rounds of fire on the car in which the two victims, identified as Annu Kumar and his younger brother Rohit Kumar were travelling, but they managed to escape unhurt as the bullets missed them by a whisker.

The suspects panicked when they realised that they missed their targets, police said.

The two brothers came out of their car and mustered courage to take on their assailants. They started pelting stones at them, police said. Police said a few local residents also came to the rescue of the two brothers and they raised an alarm.

According to police, the suspects fled towards Sohna Chowk as more local residents gathered at the spot after hearing gunshots.

On the basis of a complaint registered by Rohit, an FIR against five suspects was registered under Section 307 (attempt to murder), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act at Gurugram City police station on Thursday, police added.

Inspector Ved Pal, station house officer (SHO), City police station, said that police have got names and addresses of the four suspects involved in the firing incident. “We are conducting raids and they will be arrested at the earliest,” he said.

SHO Pal said that the two brothers and the suspects were friends but developed enmity in an attempt to establish their supremacy in the locality.

“They had a heated argument during a party several months back and became rivals. Afterwards, both sides clashed on a few occasions and were also booked in a few cases of assault and criminal intimidation,” SHO Pal added.
