60-yr-old woman killed after residential building collapses in Jaipur

The deceased was doing some household chores with her daughter-in-law while two children were playing outside the house

A 60-year-old woman was killed while another was severely injured when a dilapidated residential building in Jaipur collapsed early on Thursday morning, said officials.

“The incident happened at around 7am”, an official from the Subhash Chowk police station said.

“The deceased was doing some household chores with her daughter-in-law while two children were playing outside the house”, he said.

According to police, the two-storey building suddenly collapsed when the two women got stuck under the debris.

“Their neighbours and relatives immediately called the police. The local civil defense team from the municipality arrived at around 9am,” said the officer.

However, 60-year-old Bai was found dead while her daughter-in-law Sunita Bai (35) sustained a severe fracture on her leg.

“She was rushed to the hospital. The two children are safe as they were outside. No case has been lodged so far. Prima facie, the building was in a crumbling condition for a long time and their landlord did not renovate it despite several warnings,” said the officer.
