‘Fake’ degrees: HC dismisses plea against deputy CM Maurya

The Allahabad high court has dismissed an application challenging the rejection of a petition, by a lower court, that sought an FIR be lodged against deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya in an alleged fake degree case.

On September 4 last year, the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM) in Prayagraj dismissed an application filed by the petitioner alleging that the deputy CM mentioned false educational qualifications in his election affidavits, and in obtaining a petrol pump. The petitioner, Tripathi, had sought registration of an FIR against Maurya.

“Prima facie no cognizable offence appeared to have been committed. Hence, the application was rejected as it was found to be baseless,” the lower court had observed.
