KGMU to open new bone marrow transplant unit on Thursday

Rajashree Birla, chairperson of the foundation’s Community Initiatives and rural development centre, will also join the event.

: King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow will inaugurate its new Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Unit on Thursday. The governor of Uttar Pradesh, Anandiben Patel, deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, and minister of state Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh will attend the ceremony, according to a press release from KGMU.

The new BMT unit has eight beds and is fully equipped for bone marrow transplants. It will help poor patients from Uttar Pradesh and nearby states who suffer from blood cancer and other serious blood disorders. The unit has been built with CSR funds from the Aditya Birla Capital Foundation. Rajashree Birla, chairperson of the foundation’s Community Initiatives and rural development centre, will also join the event. KidsCan, an organisation that supports children with cancer, acted as the implementing agency for the project.
