LUCKNOW Poor sanitation, traffic jams due to battered roads and stray menace are “daily challenges” for residents of Zone-4. With the urban local bodies’ (ULB) elections only a week away, residents have raised concerns over civic apathy and vowed to vote for only those candidates who can address their woes.
Zone 4 of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) comprises 10 wards, including Gomti Nagar, Chinhat-I & II wards, Paper Mill colony, Rajiv Gandhi -I & II wards, Colvin College-Nishatganj, Bharwara-Malhaur, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai and Kharagapur-Saraswan.
‘Stray menace and damaged roads’
Civic problems of Nehru Enclave are 30 years old. These include stray animal menace at night, poor waste management, lack of a playground for children, poor upkeep of parks and damaged roads. Residents will vote for a public representative who includes all these problems in his manifesto.

‘Garbage collection a big issue’
“Even since the LMC and EcoGreen conflict, garbage collection has become a big challenge. We have to spend our money to hire sanitation workers who collect garbage from Vivek Khand and surrounding areas. Why should public bear the brunt of LMC’s controversy with EcoGreen?”

‘Insufficient amenities for large population’
Gomti Nagar Extension area faces four major problems, including lack of proper drainage system, sewage treatment plant, proper waste disposal, and drinking water facilities. There are about a dozen significant housing societies in the vicinity, with a population of over 40,000 people. But, the civic amenities are insufficient for such a large population.

‘No streetlights, area stinks’
People face three major issues in this area - lack of drainage system, street lights and public toilets. Water from houses accumulates in open fields, which stinks and becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Lack of street lights makes it unsafe for women at night. As the area is under construction, labourers coming from the outskirts have no place to go hence they defecate here.
