The New Katai Wala Pul is ready for traffic. The 153-year-old Katai Wala Pul, located in front of Somnath Dwar, will soon be demolished. The modern, two-lane bridge will replace this historic bridge, which has served as a crucial link between Sadar, Arjunganj, and the southern areas of the city with Hazratganj and Chowk since 1872.

The construction of the new bridge has already been completed, and it will soon become operational. This new bridge will significantly ease traffic flow and reduce congestion, addressing long-standing issues in the area.
The need for a new bridge was felt as the city’s traffic demands grew, and the narrow, outdated bridge struggled to handle the increasing number of vehicles.
Once the old bridge is demolished, another two-lane bridge will be constructed in phases. The demolition of the old bridge is necessary to accommodate the expansion of railway lines in the area, from two to four. This expansion will help improve railway operations and ease the movement of trains to Barabanki and beyond.
DRM, Northern Railways, Sachinder Mohan Sharma said, “The old bridge will be demolished after five months and then increasing the number of lines from 2 to 4 will be done. After that the new bridge will be made over that.”
The project, which started on February 15, 2022, was completed at a cost of ₹24.50 crore.
