Organised by a Delhi-based art and culture non-profit and in association with the Ministry of Culture (Government of India), the programme series, called ‘Cultural Karvaa’n’, is a part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav events and aims to further the awareness of traditional cultural art forms of India.
The chief guest on the first day was an actor from Lucknow, Atul Tiwari, even as the audience enjoyed appearances from folk artiste Malini Awasthi and actor Faisal Malik of Panchayat fame.
Echoes of ‘Kya Baat’ and ‘Wah!’ rang through the auditorium as everyone present thoroughly enjoyed the display. The event closed off with a stunning qawwali performance by Nawaz Sabri and Group.
On Day 2, the evening was off to a rhythmic start with a Kathak performance by renowned Nilakshi Rai, followed by a discussion on the theatrical history of Lucknow that included Malik, a poets’ symposium and a stunning closing performance by Awasthi, a Padma Shri awardee.
“The show has been put up in Chandigarh, Shimla and Bhopal, and we are now headed to Srinagar and Bengaluru,” an organiser said. “Around 80 Indian artistes have performed at Karavaa’n Virasat in Lucknow, and about 70 percent of them are from Lucknow and other parts of U.P,” the organiser added.
