Trader shot at; cops suspect personal enmity behind attack

Two motorcycle-borne unidentified assailants shot at a 40-year-old furniture trader near Picnic spot road while he was returning home late on Monday night.

Police said the victim suffered three wounds on his head, chest and neck and his condition was still critical in the trauma centre of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) till the last reports came on Tuesday.

Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) of Ghazipur police circle, Vijay Raj Singh said the victim has been identified as Shahid alias Guddu and the primary investigation suggested personal enmity behind the attack. He said two persons have been taken into custody and being interrogated after registering an FIR under Indian Penal Code section 307 for attempt to murder against unidentified assailants.

He said the victim was targeted when he was returning home near Picnic spot on a scooty from his friend’s place in Chaandan village in Indira Nagar at around 12.15 am on Monday/ Tuesday night. He said it seems that the assailants were aware about his route and were waiting for him at a deserted spot. He said the assailants riding on a motorcycle intercepted his scooty at an acute turn and opened indiscriminate firing on him.

“The spot examination suggested that the assailants fired four rounds of bullets. The victim suffered three bullet wounds and fell on the road after which some passers-by rushed him to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital from where he was later referred to the trauma centre. The police reached the spot after getting information,” he stated.

Lucknow deputy commissioner of police (DCP), North, SM Qasim Abidi said the investigation revealed that the victim has dispute with some people living in his neighbourhood and the same dispute could be the apparent reason behind the crime. He said the police are crosschecking the facts and soon the case will be solved and assailants will be arrested.
