LUCKNOW The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Saturday approved a proposal to allow 180-day maternity leave to state government women employees, twice during their entire service period (including in cases of adopted children) without the condition of a two-year gap between the two leaves.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath presided over the State Cabinet meeting that approved 11 proposals through circulation including the one about the maternity leave in the interest of women employees.
The Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court has relaxed the two-year gap norm under Rule 27 of the Maternity Benefit Act 1961, while hearing the petitions challenging the two-year norm.
Stamp duty waived on transfer of closed sugar mills’ land
The State Cabinet approved a proposal to waive stamp duty and registration fee on transfer of land of closed sugar mills of Uttar Pradesh State Spinning Company Limited /Uttar Pradesh Yarn Company Limited to UP State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA). It also approved a proposal to prorogue the Monsoon session of the state legislature. It also green-lighted a proposal to fund production of 1 crore flags for “Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan 2026” in urban areas with the funds of the state finance commission.
Nod to widening, expansion of Ayodhya’s Panchkosi Parikrama Marg
In view of the rising number of pilgrims visiting Ayodhya, a decision to strengthen and expand the Panchkosi Parikrama Marg was approved in the State Cabinet meeting by circulation on Saturday.
The approval was given to proposal for the revised cost of widening and expanding a 9.025-km stretch of the Panchkosi Parikrama Marg (classified as an ‘Other District Road’)—specifically between chainage 0.00 and 10.775—into a four-lane road.
The world-famous Panchkosi Parikrama is organised annually in Ayodhya during Kartik month, drawing a large number of devotees from across the country. There has been a marked increase in the number of pilgrims visiting Ayodhya following the completion of the Shri Ram Temple in 2024. This year, over 35 lakh devotees participated in the Panchkosi Parikrama, said a press statement issued by UP PWD.
Currently, the maximum width of the Parikrama route’s carriageway is approximately 7-metre. Under the proposal, necessary ancillary works will be carried out alongside the widening and expansion of the route. The revised cost for the project has been fixed at ₹466.45 crore.
