Man arrested in Pune for attempting to murder friend

According to the police, the accused attacked the victim, identified as Suraj Vijay Ghodake, 26, for allegedly harassing his sister

The Pimpri-Chinchwad police on Tuesday arrested one and booked two others for attempting to murder a 26-year-old on Monday.

According to the police, the accused attacked the victim, identified as Suraj Vijay Ghodake, 26, for allegedly harassing his sister.

The arrested has been identified as Ajay Raju Birajdar, 19, a resident of Nehrunagar in Pimpri and the two others booked have been identified as Dinesh Gaikwad, 25, and Vishal alias Bala Awhad, 23, both residents of Vitthalnagar in Pimpri. They are all labourers.

“They are all friends. Ghodake had been pursuing Bhirajdar’s sister for a while. He approached her on Sunday. Bhirajdar had warned Ghodake to stay away from his sister,” said Haridas Bochare, police sub-inspector (PSI), Pimpri police station who is investigating the case.

The three attacked Ghodake with sharp blades that were 4-5 inches in length, causing grievous injuries. He is currently undergoing treatment at the Sassoon General hospital.

The victim, Ghodake, has three cases registered against him, including one of murder where he was booked along with Gaikwad, who is currently absconding. Gaikwad works with Birajdar in a private company as a labourer, said the police.

A case under Sections 307 (attempted murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code along with Section 37(1)135 of Maharashtra Police Act has been registered against the three at Pimpri police station.
