Dharavi resident on bike molests foreigner in Khar, arrested

Within 24 hours of the crime being reported, the investigation team tracked him from the route he fled after molesting, and subsequently located him in Dharavi

MUMBAI: The Khar police on Sunday arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly molesting a foreigner on Saturday while she was walking on the street.

According to the police, the victim, a 24-year-old woman from France, was walking on Sherly Rajan Road when an unidentified motorcyclist allegedly touched her inappropriately before speeding away. The woman then immediately filed a complaint with the Khar police, who registered a case under Section 74 (outraging the modesty of a woman through assault or criminal force) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023.

The police began reviewing CCTV footage in the area. Within 24 hours of the crime being reported, the investigation team tracked him from the route he fled after molesting, and subsequently located him in Dharavi.

The accused, identified as Sunil Vishni Waghela, was arrested on Monday and his motorcycle seized. “We will produce him before the court on Monday,” said a police officer.
