Forum spreads awareness on illegal taxation by Panvel Corporation
Resident associations from Kharghar to Panvel have started conducting awareness programmes at different nodes to sensitise the public about the illegality of taxation by the corporation
Navi Mumbai After Panvel Corporation gave a deadline of March 31 to pay property taxes, resident associations from Kharghar to Panvel have started conducting awareness programmes at different nodes to sensitise the public about the illegality of taxation by the corporation and initiate a non-cooperation movement.

“Residents of Panvel Municipal Corporation are getting messages to pay property tax before March 31 or they have to pay a penalty. Hence, we are conducting meetings with society office-bearers, organisations at various nodes. During these meetings, the citizens are also sharing their views and concerns with us, which we have been solving for them,” Mangesh Adhav from Kamothe Colony Forum said.
The forum claims to have been receiving maximum support from the residents. “We had approached court against this taxation as we are already paying tax to Cidco and the tax from Panvel Municipal Corporation amounts to double taxation. Till the time the matter is in court and no order is passed, we won’t pay the taxes,” he added. The forum proposed resolution to not pay the unlawful and illegal double tax which was unanimously accepted by all.
Similar meetings are being conducted by Kharghar Forum Chairperson Leena Garad. Till now, the meetings with the residents have been conducted at Kharghar and Kamothe, which will again be repeated for those who couldn’t attend. Besides at Khanda Colony and Panvel too, it will be conducted.
Meanwhile, an officer of Panvel Municipal Corporation said, “The taxation that we are asking to be paid is as per the law. Only if the residents pay the tax, then we can develop the node.”
