VHP to hold Shobha Yatra in Wadala

Vishva Hindu Parishad's (VHP) city unit will hold a Shobha Yatra procession in Wadala on Sunday to celebrate Gudi Padwa, with up to 1,000 people expected to attend.

Mumbai: Vishva Hindu Parishad’s (VHP) city unit will hold a Shobha Yatra—Gudi Padwa procession—in Wadala on Sunday.

The procession will culminate at Hanuman Mandir near MbPT Colony at 10 pm.

“We are expecting 500 to 1,000 people from various sections of the Hindu community to participate in the procession, which we have been organising since 2012. It will begin from the Shiv Mandir near Vidyalankar College in Wadala after Maha Aarti at around 5pm. The procession will proceed to MbPT Colony through Sangam Nagar,” Rajiv Chaubey, joint secretary of VHP city unit, said.

Local units of VHP celebrate fortnight of the new year from Gudi Padwa to Hanuman Jayanti by holding processions in the city. Its local units also hold similar processions in other parts of the city, including Chembur, Dharavi, Powai and Worli in the last few days.

Chaubey said that they have been holding the procession peacefully for over the last ten years. “We will hold the procession peacefully and will ensure that no untoward incident happens from our end. The police will ensure that the procession concludes peacefully,” he added.
