The incident happened around 12.30pm when he was attempting to cross over from the main building of the hotel to an annexe. Instead of taking the metallic connecting bridge, he stepped on to a plaster of paris (POP) structure, which gave in, and he fell, said the police.
The deceased, identified as Sahil Rajbahar, was called in by the contractor looking after the renovation work underway at the hotel.
“Prima facie, it seemed that the worker thought that the POP connector between the two buildings was made of bricks or some stronger material. He was attempting to cross over to the other building through it, instead of the metal connector that was installed to connect the two buildings,” said a police officer.
The father of the deceased is an employee of the hotel and was informed about his son’s death immediately after it happened, and said that he had no complaints against the hotel authorities, said the police.
The officer added that further enquiry into the matter is underway to ascertain that there was no foul play involved in the incident.
