A 22-year-old woman was found dead at a locked flat in Bishanpura village under Sector 58 police station on Monday night. Her family members have alleged that her husband killed her about seven days ago and fled after locking the flat behind him.

According to Vivek Trivedi, station house officer of Sector 58 police station, they received a complaint from a resident of Bishanpur village around 1am Tuesday about blood and foul odour emanating from a nearby flat.

“Police and a forensics team reached the flat and found it locked. The team broke the lock and found a woman dead on the floor, bleeding from the head. Her body was black and blue and swollen. The victim was identified as Anjali (22), wife of Suraj, a native of Azamgarh, and the body was sent for ana autopsy,” said the officer.

He added that the woman’s family was contacted and they live in the same village a few blocks away.

“Upon inquiry, the family members told us that Anjali and Suraj had a tiff about seven days ago. Since then, Suraj has been missing. They got married four years ago and have a one-and-a-half-year-old son. The child is staying with his maternal grandmother since the past 10 days,” said Trivedi.

The woman’s family has submitted a written complaint alleging that Suraj killed Anjali seven days ago at their home in Bishanpura and fled the spot.

“On the basis of the complaint, an FIR against has been registered against Suraj under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code,” said the officer.

He added that the post-mortem report has not been released yet while teams have been deployed to nab Suraj, whose mobile phone has remained switched off since the past seven days.
